Participant Race Day Instructions

Join us for the second annual Run to Remember, an 8K run/walk through Campustown on September 17. An event to honor the memories of those we miss, cherish those within our midst, and work together for a peaceful tomorrow.

Virtual option available. Can’t join us for the in-person version of Run to Remember on September 17? No worries. Run/walk your own 8K wherever you live. You’ll receive your front and back bibs, race shirt, and medal prior to September 17. Run or walk your 8K when it works for you and post your time to the virtual leaderboard.

Race beneficiaries: United Way of Champaign County & Community Foundation of East Central Illinois

Registration opens on June 22 and will close on September 16 or when we reach a cap of 3,000 participants, whichever comes first. Your entry fee entitles all in-person entrants to FREE race photos.

09/16/22 or when we reach 3,000 registrants $43

Starting and ending on First Street adjacent to Memorial Stadium, the 8K will tour the iconic campus of the University of Illinois. Parking will be available in the E-14 lot across from the State Farm Center.

Packet pickup will be available on the following days/times at Body n’ Sole Sports: September 12–15 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and September 16 from noon to 6:00 p.m. Body n’ Sole Sports is located at 1317 N Dunlap Ave, Savoy, Illinois. You can also pick up your race packet on race morning, September 17, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. adjacent to the start line on First Street. Additional online registrations will be processed until September 16 at 11:59 p.m.

Dynamic bib assigning: We are using dynamic bib assigning, which speeds up our race number pickup process quite a bit. On Friday, September 9, we will email each entrant a unique QR code. Print and bring to Body n’ Sole a copy of your QR code (or show it to us on your phone) to be assigned and receive your race number. If you plan to pick up a race number for someone else, you must have a copy of that person’s QR code (paper copy or on your phone). If you can’t get to Body n’ Sole, you can have someone else pick up your number for you as long as that person has a copy (paper or electronic) of the QR code we email you.

The Back Bib is integral to the Run to Remember experience. All entrants receive a front bib with their name and race number. But everyone involved with the race—from entrants to volunteers and sponsors, from race staff to police, medical, and public works officials—will be given a 5 x 7 back bib that says “Today, I Remember…” with a blank space where each person can write the name(s) or event(s) he/she is remembering that day.

Entrants will receive a Bella + Canvas-brand short-sleeve unisex jersey tee. Finishers also receive a great medal and food and drink after the race.

Join us for a postrace celebration with food, live music, and good times in the grass Lot 31 adjacent to the finish line on First Street (outside Grange Grove). More details to follow.

Bella + Canvas-brand short-sleeve unisex jersey tee, made of airlume combed and ringspun cotton/polyester. The race shirt will feel oh so soft!! The shirt comes in unisex adult sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL and youth sizes S, M, and L. The race shirt color is heather aqua. See shirt sizing chart here.

To lessen overcrowding on the 8K course, we will use a wave start. When you register for the race, you will pick one of the estimated finish times below:

Wave A: 40:00 & faster (sub 8:02 pace)

Wave B: 40:01 to 47:00 (sub 9:27 pace)

Wave C: 47:01 to 52:00 (9:28–10:28 pace)

Wave D: 52:01 to 58:00 (10:29–11:40 pace)

Wave E: 58:01 to 67:00 (11:41–13:29 pace)

Wave F: 67:01 & slower (13:30 pace and slower)

Wave G: Walkers and strollers (any pace)

There is a 2-hour time limit on the course (that’s 24:08/mile pace).

Your corral letter will be printed on your bib number. The fastest runners are assigned to the first wave and occupy the first start corral. After these runners have cleared the start line, the next corral moves up to the starting line. After a predetermined interval, the second wave starts and so on. Strollers are allowed in the 8K. If you have a stroller, you must be walking and start in the walker corral, which is G.

There is one hydration station on the racecourse, located on Race Street at Carle Park, across from Urbana High School, right before mile 3. Water and lemon lime Nuun Endurance will be served. Bottled water and Nuun will also be available as part of the postrace refreshments.

Race organizers and medical team encourage entrants to be fully vaccinated but no proof of vaccination or negative PCR test is required to participate.

Fully immunized people can still contract and transmit COVID-19, although at a much lower rate than those unvaccinated. So even if you are fully vaccinated, if you are experiencing any symptoms of viral illness (headache, sore throat, cough, fever, fatigue, body aches, loss of sense of smell or taste, shortness of breath), you should not report to the start line on September 17. Medical deferral to our 2023 Run to Remember event will be granted to anyone who cannot participate due to any potential COVID-19 symptoms (you must contact race organizers at director@illinoismarathon or by calling the race hotline at 217/372-1444).

The top three male and top three female runners will receive overall awards. These runners are not eligible for age-group awards. In addition to the overall awards, there will be five-deep awards for males and females for each of the age groups listed below. Age-group awards are based on chip time.
