Our goal, always, is to provide honest and transparent communication about our race weekend.
Today, we need to share the breaking news that for the time being, we are going to PAUSE taking registrations for 2021.
In June, when we opened registration for 2021, we were hopeful we’d have smooth sailing for our 13th annual race weekend next April 29 to May 1. Unfortunately, four months later, we don’t have a clear line of sight on how large-scale, in-person running events like ours would take place.
The safety of everyone involved in race weekend is paramount. A COVID-19 vaccine and time for people to be vaccinated is needed before we can safely come together for another Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon Race Weekend. Because the timeline for these necessary steps remains uncertain, it doesn’t make sense for us to accept any more registrations at this time. If this situation changes, we will absolutely open registration back up.
If after several more months we know for sure that April 2021 is a NO GO, then we will explore with the University of Illinois the prospect of a Plan B race weekend date in the fall of 2021. And, in a worse-case scenario, if we end up not being able to hold any race weekend in 2021, everyone currently registered will receive a 100% comp entry into our 2022 race weekend, April 28–30, 2022.
We promise to stay in touch. We are Better Together. And, for sure, we know that the comeback will be bigger than the setback.
Stay safe, everyone!
